New iPhone a success, but Siri/USAF drone glitch has users wary

HEINUS – CUPERTINO  Apple’s latest iPhone, the 4S, has been a big commercial success, with more than 4 million phones reportedly sold through the first weekend. A glitch with the iPhone’s Siri voice recognition software has some iPhone 4S users unhappy, however. They found themselves stalked by U.S. Air Force drone aircraft equipped with powerful video cameras.

According to inside sources at Apple, the Siri software misinterprets the phrase, “I told ya it’s gonna crater” as “I’m a soldier for Al Queda.” Other mistakes include, “Is it true farts freeze in Antarctica?” interpreted as “Issue a fatwa please on America,” and “I’m upside down on this mortgage” as “I should have bought that Apple stock in the mid-90s.”

The mistaken voice recognition is reportedly only part of the problem, however. When one of these phrases is uttered, the phone’s GPS location is fed directly into Air Force computers and a unmanned drone is dispatched to the user’s location. One couple reported they were engaged in romantic activities in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco when they noticed an Air Force drone flying tight circles overhead. They were then shocked to watch themselves live on the Air Force’s “Drone says, Gotcha” website (www.dronegotcha.airforce.mil). The male member of the unnamed couple, who claimed to be a venture capitalist from Prunedale, Calif., said he was upset “to see myself and my partner caught in the act on the Internet” and that he was even more shocked by “a nasty pimple on my right cheek.”
