HEINUS – BRUSSELS NATO will assume control of the UN Security Council sanctioned air campaign against Libya officials announced. In a groundbreaking move, NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen also said NATO was bringing the social networking giant Facebook in as sponsor and has given the company full naming rights. NATO jets will sport the Facebook logo and Mark Zuckerberg will be grand marshal. The air campaign has been re-named “Facebook Re-Connects Libya.” Facebook users will be able to “like” individual Libyan rebels, post smart bomb video footage to their walls and use Farmville money to purchase bombs and rockets for the NATO air campaign.
“It will allow Facebook users to connect to the operation in a whole new way,” Rasmussen said. “And Facebook will get premium media exposure. For example, all pilots will use their Facebook user names during radio transmissions.” Rasmussen also said any video footage of Libyan territory will be marked with Facebook logos, just like the down and distance graphics seen during American football games.
Google and Apple Computer, shut out of the agreement, are reportedly planning their own air campaign using aircraft leased from the Ukraine, Moldova and the former airline Mexicana. Air operations from the pair have yet to commence, however. The companies are reportedly deadlocked as to the name of their effort. Apple reportedly wanted iWar and Google is demanding Google Intervention.
